TROLLIE tells the story of MAX, a 10-year-old boy. We follow him during his yearly Christmas visit to his grandmother in the mountains. When Max arrives he finds a huge footprint in the snow, definitely not of an animal, but too big for a human being! His grandmother Mimi believes it is a footprint of a Trol, but then again Mimi has a way of saying weird things, she believe in elves, in goblins and she speaks of a magical place called Ekeby.
Max goes out to investigate and meets a strange creature with big ears and beady eyes. His granny was right after all. While Max is getting involved in secretly taking care of the Trol, his family is arguing about the mansion and about Mimi`s health. Half of the family believes Mimi should be taken to a home, the other half wants her to stay where she is.
When Trollie’s presence is discovered, the family tensions are under further pressure. The result is exactly what Grandma Mimi had warned Max for: Trollie becomes a news item and is captured to be exhibited. But Max manages to liberate Trollie. To bring him back to his family, he has to find the entrance of Ekeby, the land of eternal spring.
