Synopsis
Ray and Dave Davies are captured in this chronicle of true-life events. The Fabled brothers of the Kinks, creators of some of the best songs of all time, are brought to the screen in a story that has gone on to shape three decades of rock. You Really Got Me captures a band and an era.
Ingeniously styled as a dramatization and featuring archive footage, the film follows Ray Davies, audacious lead singer and songwriter of The Kinks and one of rock’s most iconic musicians. With his brother Dave, a gifted guitarist, Ray formed a partnership as legendary as Lennon and McCartney or Jagger and Richards. After their meteoric rise to fame, the young brothers were plunged into the hedonistic world of the 1960’s music explosion, and their volatile relationship became notorious as the Cain and Abel of rock.
From London in the Swinging Sixties to tales of Carnaby street, "Top Of the Pops" and the Cavern Club, to the British invasion of the US and beyond, this is the inside story of those years, of friendships and rivalries. Part memoir, part social history, this daring film exposes rock stardom for the heaven and hell it is.
